Jet Li, 63, has devoted himself to Buddhism in recent years, occasionally attending major Buddhist events since stepping back from acting. He recently appeared in Bhutan for the construction and consecration of 108 Buddhist stupas under the national initiative Project 108, accompanied by his youngest daughter, Jada, 23.
Li wrote on social media: “On 1 November, 108 stupas were completed in a single day at Gelephu Mindfulness City in Bhutan. We feel deeply honoured to have been invited to take part in this historic construction project as volunteers. May this good deed bring joy and well-being to all. The dedication behind this remarkable achievement is truly uplifting and inspiring. We extend our heartfelt thanks to Their Majesties the King and Queen of Bhutan, our team on the ‘Stupa 20’ project, and everyone who made this possible.”
Project 108 is a national construction initiative launched by Bhutan’s fifth king, Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck.
Li also shared a photograph of himself and Jada with Bhutan’s royal couple. Dressed in traditional Bhutanese attire, Jada cut an elegant figure. Other photographs showed Li and his daughter visiting the construction site and praying.
Recently, Li has shared details of his private life and addressed rumours through interviews and self-recorded videos. Topics have included past allegations that he abandoned his wife and daughters, claims that he favours his current wife over his former wife, rumours that he has dementia, a rare photograph he posted with all four daughters on Father’s Day, rumours that he received a heart transplant from a young warrior monk, changes to his appearance following a diagnosis of hyperthyroidism and his youngest daughter’s severe depression at the age of seven, among others.
