A maid began secretly filming her employer's three children bathing and using the toilet just over a month after starting work for the family. She also punched and kicked a four-year-old boy with autism, even recording the abuse, and sent the photos and videos to her husband to “enjoy”. She was sentenced to three years in jail on Friday (30 October) morning.

The Indonesian defendant faced nine charges, including child abuse, voyeurism and distributing obscene material. She pleaded guilty to three charges, with the remaining charges taken into consideration by the judge during sentencing.

The court heard that the defendant began working for the family in January this year. Her main duty was to care for three young children: a seven-year-old girl, a four-year-old boy with autism and a one-year-old child.

On the afternoon of 7 February this year, the defendant took the four-year-old boy into the bathroom, set up her phone to record and launched a brutal assault lasting 33 seconds.

The footage showed her gripping the boy's left hand while looking at the camera and repeatedly punching his head with her right fist. Although the boy kept crying out and tried to shield his head with both hands, she forcibly pulled his hands apart and continued punching him.

At noon on 9 March, the defendant was bathing the boy in the flat. While he was naked, she picked up her phone and filmed his face and genitals.

While filming, she also kicked the boy hard in the head twice, causing him to lose his balance and stumble to the floor, crying in fright.

The defendant said she had assaulted the boy because she felt tired and frustrated while caring for him.

The boy was taken to hospital on 11 March to be examined for injuries. Fortunately, he had no obvious external injuries.

Investigations also revealed that the defendant had abused the youngest child, a one-year-old boy, on three occasions. She forcefully pinched his cheeks and nose, and even sprayed water directly onto his face with a shower head for 16 seconds while bathing him, causing him to keep trying to dodge the spray and cry.

Between February and March, the defendant also recorded fully nude images of the three children bathing and using the toilet on six occasions. She sent the images to her husband, claiming she wanted to show him how naughty the three children were.

Employer uncovered abuse after checking her phone

The employer discovered the maid's acts after checking her phone because he suspected she was feigning illness.

At 9am on 10 March this year, the defendant lay on the living room floor complaining of a headache, prompting her male employer to call an ambulance. Paramedics examined her and found her vital signs to be normal.

Suspecting that she was feigning illness, the male employer checked her phone to see whether she was hiding anything. He discovered photos and videos of her abusing his children, as well as evidence that she had sent nude images of them to her husband.

The male employer made a police report that day. Police arrested the defendant at 10pm on 14 March, and she was charged in court on 16 March.

The defendant was remanded at the Institute of Mental Health for a psychiatric assessment from 16 March to 6 April this year.
