The haze situation in Singapore is expected to remain mild, with the Pollutant Standards Index (PSI) forecast to stay in the moderate range for a third consecutive day on Thursday (29 October).

Showers are expected over Indonesia’s Sumatra, Singapore and surrounding areas on Thursday, helping to ease the regional haze. Although drier weather may return to parts of Kalimantan, prevailing winds make it unlikely that haze there will drift towards Singapore.

The National Environment Agency forecast on Wednesday (28 October) evening that Thursday’s 24-hour PSI would range between 60 and 90, within the moderate band.

Rain fell across many parts of Singapore on Wednesday. As of 6pm, the 24-hour PSI across the island’s five regions ranged from 67 to 78, all within the moderate band, with the highest reading in the central region. One-hour concentrations of fine particulate matter (PM2.5) ranged from 15 to 36 micrograms per cubic metre, within the normal range, with the highest reading in the south. Slight haze was observed around Singapore, while moderate haze persisted in parts of Kalimantan.

Winds are expected to blow from the south-east to south-west on Friday (30 October) and Saturday (31 October). Showers are forecast to continue in the region, helping to ease the haze.

The National Environment Agency reminded the public to refer to the PSI forecast and related health advisories when planning outdoor activities for the following day. Before heading outdoors, they can check the latest one-hour PM2.5 concentrations and related guidelines on the haze website (haze.gov.sg) or the myENV app.
