The Land Transport Authority (LTA) and bus operators have concluded a six-month trial of first-come, first-served use of wheelchair spaces on about 10 bus routes. The trial sought to better understand the needs of passengers travelling with children in prams and those using wheelchairs, and ensure fairer access to these spaces. The authorities have begun assessing the feedback collected to make further improvements.

In a Facebook post on Saturday (31 October), the Land Transport Authority (LTA) shared an update on the first-come, first-served trial. It said the trial, which ended on Monday (26 October), had yielded valuable insights into the various needs and challenges that wheelchair users and families with young children may face when using wheelchair spaces on buses.

LTA is collating and assessing passenger feedback collected over the past six months. It is continuing to explore how to better manage these shared spaces on buses and provide clearer guidance to meet different passengers’ needs.

LTA has also invited members of the public to register online for dialogue sessions to share their views.

LTA and bus operators began the first-come, first-served trial on about 10 bus routes in April this year.
