From Ink to Blades: A Century of Wuxia Legends

Step into the legendary world of swords fighting “wuxia” novels at this year’s City Reading Festival, where a century of storytelling comes alive through rare literary treasures and cultural artefacts. This exhibition spotlights the enduring appeal of wuxia novels—an iconic genre that has shaped Chinese cultural imagination across generations and media.

Visitors will have the rare opportunity to view original serialized newspaper manuscripts, first-edition books, newspapers archives and classic magazine publications, many of which are being showcased together for the first time. Featuring celebrated authors such as Jin Yong, Gu Long, and Liang Yusheng, the exhibition explores themes of justice, identity, and heroism that continue to resonate today.

Organised into three main thematic sections, the exhibition traces the journey of wuxia from print to screen, and offers an immersive look at beloved texts and characters. With interactive elements and archival highlights on display, audiences can step into the rich and vibrant world of wuxia like never before.
